Our iCan! Work program is designed to help transition individuals with Down syndrome into the workplace. The iCan! Work Program is a discovery process that will provide participants with opportunities to explore what career options best fit their interests and skill sets which will allow them to succeed. They will be prepared to work with a Success Coach and employer to set goals and expand their skill sets in preparation for meaningful employment. In the workplace our members will establish a network of peers and friends who will not only help them in their role, but will also benefit from their presence in their place of employment.
Our current community partners for on-the-job training:
Our iCan! Work participants:
Adam completed his 12-week internship at Orlando Health. At the end of the internship Orlando Health extended a job offer to Adam! Adam is still working at Orlando Health and making more than minimum wage.
When asked why he likes his job Adam stated:
"My job makes me happy! I love my boss, everyone is nice to me and I am meeting other people. I also love making money!"
Important information: Attendance is encouraged for those interested in participating in The FOUNDATION's iCan! Work Program. Registration with VR is a prerequisite, and attendance on all five days is compulsory. If you need assistance registering with VR, contact Caroline.
Each game night there are ten opportunities to volunteer. Volunteers help us raise funds for our iCan! Work program while providing support to the members with Down syndrome working in the Fields Lounge. Volunteers must be 18 years or older and pass a background check to participate. You can volunteer on your own or with a group of friends. It is a MAGICAL way to give back! You get to have fun and make a difference in a high energy atmopshere supporting our local team. Members with Down syndrome who do not wish to participate in the iCan! Work program are welcome to volunteer.
This is the perfect entry point for our iCan! Work program. Members who are interested in long-term employment can work at the MAGIC GAMES as part of our OJT (on-the-job) traning program. Working at the Magic games prepares our members for work in many food and beverage locations. Our members with Down syndrome are paid for their shifts and participate in a weekly Lunch & Learn career development program. Individuals who participate in this program are also given first priority at our other OJT locations and supported employment through The FOUNDATION.
